Phantasien
an audio/visual installation in collaboration with artist Richard Higlett
'Dreams are excursions into the limbo of things, a semi-deliverance from the human prison.' (Henri Frederic Amiel)
Designed to evoke the multi-layered complexities of dreams and real and/or imagined scenarios, Phantasien's sounds and visuals weave together to encourage an exploration of the inner spaces bordered by dreams.
The changing appearances of the Dreamcatcher, the sound and sight of dreams shuddering into and through its threads, create an installation portraying the altered states of consciousness of a mind slipping over transitions and boundaries into and out of deep sleep, and the emotions experienced on such a journey. Each potential dreamer is invited to step out of wakefulness whilst awake, and make what they wish of the experience, what they imagine they experience, and what they are open to experience. |
Leona and Richard filmed the Dreamcatcher, constructed by Richard on the model of the hydrogen atom. Leona collected found sounds and digitally manipulated them to construct the soundscape mirroring the manner in which dreams use occurrences from life to replay or twist past recognition. The work was installed at Oriel Davies Gallery, Newtown, Powys, Mid Wales from November 2010 until January 2011. |
Leona's collaboration with Richard Higlett lasted several years, and work was produced under the partnership name l:l. They created work across a range of media using text, sound and visual images, and the work they made together was a hybrid of their respective methodologies.
